"Refuting the Artist"

“Critics quarrel with other critics. With an artist, no sane man quarrels." -Santayana

It would be better said, “...with art no sane man quarrels.” The talking artist is an easy target for refutation, especially if he talks through his paintings. That’s what fine art is; paintings that stop talking and begin to listen.

Great painting is a wise man with two ears and no mouth. But bad art is a fool, and never shuts up.
